Access Course in Christian Theology
The Access in Christian Theology Course is for anyone who wants to know more about the Bible or study the Christian faith in greater depth. No formal qualifications are required and the course is equally suited to school-leavers, pensioners, or anyone aged anywhere in between!
Explore key areas such as Biblical Theology I (Old Testament) and Biblical Theology II (New Testament) as well as introductions to Systematic Theology, Church History and Pastoral Theology. And there’s also a handy ‘study skills’ section to help you get started.
Access is useful for two groups of people:
· Those wishing to study the Christian faith but who don’t have the necessary qualifications for entry to HTC’s BA in Theological Studies degree. (Other institutions may also recognise this course as an appropriate entry qualification to degree level courses in theology or other disciplines.)
· Those wishing to study for interest only. Successful completion of the course demonstrates competence to begin degree level study but does not presume that you will choose to go on to further study.
Access can be studied at HTC or at home.

BA (Hons) in Theological Studies
The BA degree programme is centred on three main themes: biblical studies, theological/historical studies and applied studies.
Students not wishing to study for a BA degree (or Honours degree) can exit the programme at Level 1 with a CertHE Theological Studies or Level 2 with a DipHE Theological Studies. It is also possible for students to study just individual modules rather than pursue a whole course.
The minimum entrance requirements are normally five SCE passes, including three at Higher grade. However other access routes are possible, including HTC’s Access Course in Christian Theology. Consideration will be given to mature students who may not have formal qualifications but whose work experience may give evidence of ability to complete the course.
HTC has been approved by a number of denominations as a provider of the education and training of Ministers and Readers (including the Church of Scotland, the United Free Church of Scotland and Associated Presbyterian Churches).
The BA programme can be studied full-time or part-time, either at HTC or at home.

MTh in Reformed Theology
This taught postgraduate programme offers students who already possess an undergraduate degree in theology an opportunity to study Reformed Theology to a deeper and greater extent than is possible at honours level. Modules are taught in one week blocks, making it accessible for ministers and others. This course provides an excellent continuing professional development opportunity for those in the ministry.
Core modules include: The History of Reformed Theology and Scottish Covenant Theology. Study options include: Calvin and Calvinism, Reformed Theology and Pastoral Ministry, Zwingli and the Swiss Reformation, Romans in the Reformed Tradition and Biblical Theology of the Reformed Tradition.
The MTh degree will take 12 months for full-time students and 24 months for part-time students.

Doctor of Ministry (DMin)
The DMin degree is designed to increase the effectiveness of ministers and other full-time Christian workers. It is built upon solid biblical and theological foundations and is designed to be flexible enough to meet individual needs. Applicants must have a degree in theology and also have been engaged in a recognised form of professional ministry for at least three years.
Core modules include: Applied Theology; Leadership; Worship; and Theology of Ministry. Elective modules include Expository Preaching; Biblical Foundations for Counselling; Church Revitalisation; and Communication. There are no exams!
HTC offers the DMin degree in partnership with Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS), one of the largest theological colleges in the USA. The DMin degree is a part-time course normally taken over a three year period. Students must take at least one module in each academic year and there is a maximum of six years permitted for the completion of the degree.

MPhil & PhD
The degrees of MPhil and PhD are research degrees with no taught course work involved. They may be taken either as full-time or part-time degrees.
The normal study period for full-time candidates for an MPhil degree is 24 months. For part-time students the normal study period is 42 months. Prospective PhD students who do not already have the MPhil degree or an MTh/ThM may be registered as MPhil students until the completion of a probationary period, after which they can apply to be upgraded. This probationary period will normally be one year for full-time students and two years for part-time students. For a PhD, the normal study period is 36 months full-time or 60 months part-time.
