Reality Adventure Works; training evening

Richard Morrison of Reality Aventure Works gives news of a training evening for anyone who would like to work with the organisation and young people.

Richard Morrison writes:

RealityTHERE will be a training evening for anyone who would like to assist in the weekends away with Reality Adventure Works in Scotland Ltd. as detailed below.

Reality provides residential weekends breaks for young people aged 9 -16 from the Highlands who have social interaction difficulties (ASD).

We work in small groups of 3 or 4 on a 1:1 basis, usually at the Abernethy Trust Centre at Nethybridge and so have a great time together making the best use of all the outdoor activities there.

This evening event is to prepare us to make the most of such opportunities for the young people and you will be very welcome to check it out without commitment.

The Big Lottery Fund yesterday announced that they are giving money to Reality Adventure Works, which runs residential camps for autistic youngsters in the region, and to community co-operative Co-Chomunn na Pairc, on Lewis.

The two awards are part of a wider £2million package, which is the first to be made from the Big Lottery fund’s Investing in Communities programme.

Reality Adventure Works has been awarded £237,534 for a initiative which aims to use outdoor sports, such as climbing and kayaking, to help autistic children aged 10 to 16.

Richard Morrison, project manager, said that he and staff were “grateful beyond words” that their application for funding had been approved.

He added that it would have positive implications for the young people that they support.
