Christian Drop-in Centre

With the rising problems in our society there is an increasing opportunity for the Christian community and churches to demonstrate the love of God in practical caring. However the problem facing those in need of help is how to make the first point of contact with those who might be able to offer help.

Indeed even the statutory agencies have difficulty in understanding and connecting with this thing that is commonly called "the church".

KedeshBobLinda3As a response to these situations, a new Christian Drop-in Centre has opened its doors in Norwich offering a warm welcome to anyone who wants a chat, a cup of tea, a listening ear or a word of prayer.

The Kedesh Christian Drop-In Centre has been opened by Norwich-based missionary couple Bob and Linda Humphries who have a vision to reach out to hurting and needy people across the city. They also have a vision to network with other Christians, churches and organizations across the city and link up people who come to them with these groups.

Bob said: “We offer a free cup of tea and a listening ear to anyone who wants to come in. If people would like prayer or counselling we can offer that. We also believe in full body ministry, which means we want to link up with and use the full resources of the Christian community in Norwich.

KedeshBobLinda2“We are keen to link up with other Christian ministries and would like them to get in contact if they are interested. We are also looking to build up a team of volunteer workers to make tea, to chat to people and to pray,” said Bob.

“We want to help to be the church on the streets and to reach out to the lost. We will put anyone we come into contact with in touch with local churches.”

The couple returned to their Norwich roots last year after a number of years working in Wandsworth Prison in London and at a hostel for ex-offenders. They have also been involved in prayer walking across England and Europe.

KedeshCardsBob and Linda are supported by their home church, Elim Pentecostal and its pastor Gerry Turner and the Drop-in centre has received backing from a number of local churches.
