SU Worker basking in the Orkney sun

Orkney had a flurry of SU activity concentrated into 6 short days last week as Scott McRoberts the Regional Worker for the Northern Highlands and Orkney visited the County. He was assisted in putting together a programme by John Steer of Stromness who has undertaken to help with the SU Support Group locally and it was good that the group met for prayer on Scott’s first evening.

Scot joined in with 4 regular weekly SU groups as well as taking assemblies in half a dozen schools and visiting after school clubs on the Orkney Mainland. The weekend saw an evening event on the Friday as both primary and secondary children flocked to Firth Kirk at various age-appropriate times and Scott gave a message for the younger ones then switched up a gear for the teenagers.

This meeting co-incided with the Jewish New Year and all the youngsters had a turn at blowing the traditional Shofar, although no one saw Scott attempt the task. Perhaps he was saving his breath for the next days’ onslaught of meetings and with the climax of a fun day at Dounby with a range if activities including a bouncy castle.

Prayer points from the visit would include good outcomes from visits to schools where there is no active SU involvement, and from conversations with Head Teachers which might result in further invitations to assemblies on future visits. Pray for secondary pupils especially as they seek to establish a witness among their peers while being constrained by red tape and pray for the outer isles where some schools have no witness.
