Elspeth Masson - Christian Friends of Israel

Elspeth MassonElspeth Masson is a Bible-believing Christian living in Inverness who has long accepted the unconditional nature of the covenant that God made with Abraham.
The Word of God stands whatever the political situation, whatever the pronouncements of presidents or prime ministers.
However it was as a professional historian – she had been, until June 2000, Principal Teacher of History at Crieff High School in Perthshire – that as time and again, she heard erroneous facts concerning the history of the modern State of Israel go reported and unchallenged in the mainstream media, she felt prompted to apply to work with Christian Friends of Israel.

During 2007, in response to a request from a Ladies’ Bible Study group in Inverness, she prepared and presented in four sessions, an illustrated talk on Israel in Scripture and History - the prophetic word concerning Israel, historic anti-Semitism and the spiritual dimension in Middle East problem today. Encouraged by the positive way in which it was received, she adapted it to a one hour talk which has been presented by invitation on several occasions - at a traditional evening service in Easter Ross, to a group gathered round a kitchen table in Nairn and - through a chance meeting when she was manning an Israel stall at a ‘Pray for Scotland’ day conference – to a gathering of Christians who meet together each month in Brodick.
The response on each occasion – if measured by the attentiveness of the audience and by the number of books sold from the bookstall - was overwhelming.

Presentations to the churches and Christian groups

In the context of the above and also with the news from Israel dominating our headlines, Elspeth feels that the time is now right to offer this presentation to any church or house group which might be interested. While a screen, a DVD player and television would be useful in a large group, for a small informal gathering no resources are required.

Why should Christians care about Israel?

Elspeth responds by saying: "The Jewish people and the Land of Israel are special to God; and that in and through the salvation of the Jews, the church will be blessed." Amongst the many verses that could be quoted, Elspeth offers the following from the Old and New Testaments:

“I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”
Genesis 17: 7-8

In the Salvation of the Jews, the Church will be Blessed
“Did God reject His people? By no means! -- If their transgression means riches for the world and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will their fullness bring?”
Romans 11: 1 & 12

Elspeth further explains the work of Christian Friends of Israel in Jerusalem:

CFI is called to ‘Comfort those who mourn in Zion’, and teams go out with the blessing of Israeli institutions to extend love and support in the Name of Jesus to many sections of Israeli society - new immigrants, victims of terror, Holocaust survivors, soldiers, those defeated by long term unemployment, mental health problems or addictions and so on.

CFI encourage all their workers to spend time at the Jerusalem Office and observe the work first hand. It is in this capacity alone that Elspeth Masson has the authority to speak of the work in Israel but, overwhelmed by what she saw and heard, she is more than willing to speak to any group interested to hear of that work.
