The 50-day Easter-to-Pentecost prayer walk which started in Shetland with horizontal hailstones, finished in Edinburgh in glorious sunshine on Sunday 27 May as the Connecting Scotland team led over 1,000 Christians in a march down the Royal Mile from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Park.

The marathon runners earlier that morning had battled with heavy rain but by the time the prayer walkers assembled it was a bright day, made brighter by the colours of the dancers and flags from all the Nations. As the walkers moved down the High Street they prayed at eight different locations on the way; including the Parliament building where prayers were said for the new administration.

Moving into the Park, the walkers joined with the team celebrating the Global Day of Prayer, and enjoyed rousing worship lead by Godfrey Birtell and his band. In a short address Pastor Bert McKaig whose vision had lead to the prayer walk, encouraged those present to be “desperate to see revival in our nation”.

Connections have been made during these fifty days that have seen individuals, churches and whole communities come together in a way that many have not experienced before. The Orcadians and Shetlanders were walking together as one (and met with some Invernessians for the first time); with the flags of Orkney and Shetland attracting people from all the airts.

Pray for Scotland are now meeting to hear from God how to move forward strategically and to build on the vision and the experience of the past fifty days of the Easter to Pentecost prayer walk across the nation.
