Ride for Romania
Twenty-five cyclists set off from the Church of Scotland in Gairloch before seven o’clock on the morning of Saturday, 15th September. Ahead of them was a 108 mile cycle run travelling via Aultbea and Dundonnell to Braemore, then to Garve and west back to Gairloch through Achnasheen and Kinlochewe. A bright morning turned into a very cold, wet and windy day, testing the stamina and fortitude of the bravest, with temperatures down to 5°C. All but four cyclists were able to finish the ride and were welcomed back, tired and bedraggled, with home-made soup and other goodies.
The cycle run was organised by the local Church of Scotland minister, Derek Morrison, to raise funds in support of two charities in Romania, the Csemete Nursery in Cluj and the Acts Trust who work with impoverished teenagers in Romania’s Hunedoara County.
It’s not too late to contribute - anyone wishing to donate should contact Derek by e-mail at derekmorrison1@aol.com or
