Elaine Duncan (SBS) speaking about Peru

Len Cazaly is the Secretary of the Scottish Bible Society's Inverness Local Action Group. Len writes about a forthcoming visit from the SBS Chief Executive,  Elaine Duncan

Dear Friends,

Peru Evening

Elaine Duncan, the Chief Executive of the Scottish Bible Society, recently paid a visit to Peru not long after a devastating earthquake hit the country:

“The whole country was in mourning. I felt some of the after-shocks myself, but the main ‘after-shock’ is in the lives of people forced to rebuild homes, communities, normal life. ‘Normal life for many in Peru is marked by poverty. One third of the population lives in Lima, which is notorious for its children. Youngsters abandoned by their families are left to fend for themselves. The city is surrounded by shanty towns, where conditions are very basic, with no running water. It is in this context that Christians are seeking to show God’s love and compassion. The Bible Society and Scripture Union are working hard to bring holistic help to young people in these areas.”

Elaine will be speaking about her visit to Peru at:

Hilton Church of Scotland
Tomatin Road, Inverness
on Tuesday 22nd April.

The evening begins with refreshments at 7:00pm.

We also hope to hear from a team from Hilton about their recent visit to Peru.

All are welcome!
