Statement on the Archbishop's 'Sharia' views

ArchbishopofCanterburyFollowing the recently-expressed view of the Archbishop of Canterbury on the need to incorporate Sharia Law into the British legal system, Rev. Dr. Clifford Hill has issued the following statement.

Dr. Hill was the founding editor of the Christian magazine Prophecy Today which declared God's word into the nation for a period of over 20 years. He warned in his writings of much of what we now see happening in the life of our nation.

The Archbishop of Canterbury's statement on Sharia law

As a friend of Dr Rowan Williams I am deeply saddened by the statement he has made advocating some recognition of sharia law in Britain. Dr Williams has a great pastoral heart and a deep concern for love and harmony between all people of different persuasions and cultures in Britain. He takes seriously the Christian commitment to a 'ministry of reconciliation' and longs to see people of different faiths living together in peace.

Dr Williams has attempted to deal, as a matter of intellectual debate, with the desire of Muslins for Islamic law to govern their personal lives within the legal jurisdiction of Britain.
It is unfortunate that this has led him to make statements which appear to disregard the unique revelation of God in Jesus Christ and thereby to undermine the position of Christianity established by law in Britain which, as Archbishop of the established church, his office demands that he should uphold.
In view of the strongly negative public reaction to his statements, which affect his position as head of the Church of England, I hope that he will reaffirm his commitment to the Christian gospel as the ultimate truth revealed in Jesus.
