George Hargreaves - SCP leader

George Hargreaves(Rev.) George Hargreaves, the leader of the Scottish Christian Party, is put under the spotlight by the BBC's Maggie Shiels in a 30-minute interview for Radio Scotland. In the interview he responds to a series of probing questions on a range of topical and controversial subjects including abortion, gay adoption and working mothers.

 

In the course of the current election campaign Rev. Hargreaves has written to Sir William Rae the Chief Constable of Glasgow,  asking for police protection for the party’s posters which have been subject to defacement and other vandalism.

 

The SCP leading candidate for the Highlands and Islands region is Murdo Murray former Technical Director of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar in the Western Isles, has been selected to run at the top of the Scottish Christian Party’s Highlands and Islands regional MSP list for next year’s Scottish Parliamentary election.

Rev. Sandy Shaw (Nairn Christian Fellowship) and Mr. Tom Forrest from Kinlochewe are also standing; along with Les Turner, Jessie Cormack, Angus Ross, Andrew Shearer, Susan Wallace, Tony Bond, Barrie Cormack, David Forbes and Donald Morrison.

 

Rev. Hargreaves was invited by Christians Together to address Inverness church leaders in November of last year; and during the course of his visit Jim and David Eglinton (of HCVF) recorded a 45-minute interview with the SCP leader and the Editor of Christians Together. The Christian Peoples Alliance is also fielding candidates in the forthcoming election. The CPA includes people from all faiths and none; and the party declined to be interviewed by the BBC as part of the above programme

The CPA's top candidate for the Glasgow seat is Mr. Abdul Dean. Mr. Dean is a former Vice-Chairman of the Multi-Faith Coalition; and his father is the head of the Muslim community in Scotland.
